Summer Hockey Guidelines

Willmar Civic Center Blue Line Arena Safety Guidelines – Summer 2020

Covid-19 is a contagious virus that spreads through person-to-person contact. Federal and State authorities recommend social distancing as a means to prevent the spread of the virus.

Covid-19 can lead to severe illness, personal injury, permanent disability, and death.

Participating in West Central Hockey’s programs or accessing the Willmar Civic Center facilities could increase you and your child’s risk of contracting Covid-19.  West Central Hockey and the City of Willmar in no way warrants that a Covid-19 infection will not occur though participation in West Central Hockey activities in and around the Willmar Civic Center.

By participating in West Central Hockey activities you acknowledge and assume the risk posed by Covid-19,and you agree you do not hold West Central Hockey or City of Willmar liable should you be exposed to Covid-19 in the Willmar Civic Center or during a West Central Hockey activity.

If you are unwilling to assume this risk, please contact West Central Hockey about ending your participation in their activities.

In response to the risk to coaches, players, arena staff, officials, and parents, the following guidelines are in place for activities held by West Central Hockey in and around Willmar Civic Center for 2020:

What you need to do:

Before coming to the arena:

Assess yourself and your player for symptoms of illness. No one with fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other sign of illness should go to the arena. Stay home. Please consult with a medical professional to ensure you are not contagious to others before returning to play.

Players and officials should arrive to the arena fully dressed with the exception of skates (coming in to the arena with skate guards on is ideal) and helmets. Exceptions are made for goalies, who may need to put on additional equipment at the rink.

Whenever possible, players should use the restroom at home prior to leaving for the arena in an effort to limit bathroom use at the facility

Entering the arena:

Do not arrive at the arena more than 15 minutes before your scheduled event.

The arena will be using a red light/green light systems to let you know when you may enter the arena. The light is located just above the main arena entrance doors.

Players, parents, and coaches must not enter the arena until the GREEN light is on above the arena main entrance doors. If the red light is on, do not enter the arena. The green light will be turned on by the arena staff once the previous group has cleared the arena.

Parents: whenever possible, please drop off your player and do NOT enter the arena. For those with players 10 and under that need help with skates, or that need to stay at the arena for the health or safety of their player, please follow proper social distancing guidelines while at the arena. Please only one parent per family. Parents with players under 10 or with special needs may stay at the arena during activities. Parents at the arena must observe social distancing at all time.

Once in the arena

No Locker Rooms are available for player or coaches.

Coaches must to follow social distance rules at all times, including on and off the ice.

On the ice, groups are limited to two pods of 25 on an ice sheet at a time. Pods should not mix during your time at the arena.

Players should be bringing their own rehydration liquids to the rink in clearly marked or labeled containers with the player’s identity. The container should be re-sealable. Players should NOT plan on refilling their containers at the rink.

Only one official may be in the clock area. That person must run both clock and score book if both are in use. One additional person may be added to run penalty boxes if needed.

Exiting the arena:

Athletes and Coaches that are done for the day must exit the arena 10 minutes after their ice time is complete.

Please understand that it is important for everyone to observe the above policies.

People not following guidelines puts our use of the Willmar Civic Center at risk.

It is very possible these guidelines will change during the summer. In that case, we will keep you up to date on what you need to know, and how the program may need to change.

Thanks for your cooperation. We greatly appreciate your participation in hockey summer 2020!
